Nominations for the 2023 Australia Day ceremony are now open and the Leeton Shire community is being encouraged to nominate individuals and groups who they believe are worthy recipients of an award.
The awards aim to recognise outstanding contributions to the local community in 2022 and/or contributions to the local community over several years.
If you know of a person or community group who has gone above and beyond to help improve the life of others, don't miss the opportunity to nominate them for an award.
Each year Council presents awards across several categories at an Australia Day ceremony which celebrates the outstanding contributions that individuals, community groups and organisations make in the Shire.
Categories
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year
- Lifelong Citizen of the Shire
- Achiever of the Year
- Young Achiever of the Year
- Group/Organisation/Event of the Year
- Sportsperson of the Year
- Junior Sportsperson of the Year
Eligibility Criteria
- Nominees for Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Lifelong Citizen to the Shire MUST reside in the Leeton Shire.
- Nominees MUST be Australian Citizens.
- Self-nominations will not be accepted.
- Previous Nominees will be accepted (provided they have not been a successful recipient of the award in the previous 5 years).
- Nominees must have contributed significantly to the local community over and what is normally expected from their paid employment/business.
Category Criteria
- Citizen of the Year – 26 years of age or older as of 26 January 2023

Young Citizen of the Year – under 26 years of age as of 26 January 2023

In the preceding year, nominees need to display:
- Notable service to one or more areas of the Community; and/or
- Performed act/s compassion: and/or
- Shown considerable willingness to help others.

In the preceding year, nominees need to display:
- Achiever of the Year – 16 years of age or older as of 26 January 2023

Young Achiever of the Year – under 16 years of age as of 26 January 2023
- In the preceding year, nominees need to display outstanding achievement in a chosen field such as employment, training, study, voluntary work, art and culture, sport in the Leeton Shire.

Group/Organisation/Event of the Year
- In the preceding year, nominees need to display outstanding contribution(s), donation(s) or service(s) to the Community through their notable successful event or activities.

Lifelong Citizen of the Shire
- In the preceding year, nominees for this category are to have displayed a consistent effort of service to the community over a longstanding period.
- A short biography should be included.
- Sportsperson of the Year – 18 years of age or older as of 26 January 2023

Junior Sportsperson of the Year – under 18 years of age as of 26 January 2023
- In the preceding year, nominees for this category are to have displayed in the preceding year a consistent effort and outstanding contribution to local sport.
