The Government of Alberta is seeking applications for its International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) Event Grant.
Groups can apply for funding to hold in-person, virtual or hybrid International Day of Persons with Disabilities events in their communities.
The United Nations recognizes December 3 as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). The Premier’s Council on the Status of Persons with Disabilities provides grants to help community groups hold IDPD events that:
- raise awareness about the importance and value of respecting differences, accepting and including persons with disabilities
Principles
- There are eight guiding principles that underlie the Convention and each one of its specific articles:
- Respect for inherent dignity, individual autonomy including the freedom to make one’s own choices, and independence of persons
- Non-discrimination
- Full and effective participation and inclusion in society
- Respect for difference and acceptance of persons with disabilities as part of human diversity and humanity
- Equality of opportunity
- Accessibility
- Equality between men and women
- Respect for the evolving capacities of children with disabilities and respect for the right of children with disabilities to preserve their identities
Funding Information
- Your committee can apply for a grant of up to $1,500.
Eligibility Criteria
- You can apply for funds to hold IDPD events that:
- raise awareness and demonstrate the importance of including persons with disabilities in the broader community
- are inclusive and open to all
- are organized and hosted by community groups and agencies working collaboratively as a committee
- held on or around December 3
- Grants may cover expenses for barrier-free access, such as:
- sign language interpreters
- real-time captioning
- equipment rental to accommodate specific disability needs
- speakers
- hall rentals
