Ireland: Arts in Context Award 2023

Arts in Context applications are invited by the Cork City Councils Arts Office for 2023.

Cork City Councils Art Strategy outlines the policies and strategies of the council for the development of the Arts Sector. Grant aid is distributed in accordance with these policies.

The role of Cork City Arts Office is to enable and champion the artistic and cultural ambitions of Cork city and its people. They advise and support the Council on all arts and cultural matters and ensure the development of arts and culture in Cork City. They do this through investment, advocacy, connection and animation.

Categories

The Arts in Context Award invites artistic proposals involving professional artists in non-professional arts contexts such as a school, health or social care setting, youth club, prison, community space etc using community arts, socially engaged, collaborative and/or participatory methods in one of any of the following project categories:
- Research & Development: Applicants can apply for support of up to €1000 towards the research and development of a project. This category prioritises resources needed by an artist to spend time researching methodologies and developing relationships for the benefit of a future project. The application for this project phase must be completed by the lead artist.
- Project Realisation: Applicants can apply for support of up to €6,000 towards the realisation of a project. This category prioritises resources needed for an artist and participants to work together on the realisation of a joint project proposal. The application for this project phase must be completed by the lead artist and participating group.
- Project Completion: Applicants can apply for support of up to €1,000 towards the completion of a project. This category prioritises resources needed for publication, dissemination and/or archival costs of a project that has been realised by an artist with participants. The application for this phase must be completed by the lead artist.

NOTES: Only ONE of the application categories can be applied for in a single funding year for a project phase as defined here.

Criteria

Applicants must be located within Cork City Council’s administrative area.
Applications must be fully completed, signed and submitted before the stated deadline.
Requested supporting material must be submitted.
Work must be carried out on a not-for-profit basis within the year of application.
Work must be artistic in nature.
Where relevant, organisations must have up-to-date child safeguarding policies that are compliant with the Children First Act 2015.
Match funding of 30% is required for Project Realisation Arts in Context Awards. Support in-kin is eligible.
Additional Criteria
- Artistic
  - Artistic ambition of project proposal.
  - Involvement of professional artists and arts workers in the planning and implementation of the project/ activity.
  - Technical and artistic expertise of the facilitator(s).
  - Quality of artistic samples.
  - Relevance of artistic project to the specified community group.
  - Impact on professional development of the artist in their area of practice.
- Strategic
  - Potential to contribute to relevant objectives in the Cork City Council Arts & Culture Strategy, 2022 – 2026.
  - Relevance to the needs of the relevant community / group / audience and capacity to animate target settings.
  - Recognition and accommodation of the diverse cultures and demographics in the city.
  - Participation / partnership proposed is appropriate, inclusive and of depth and quality.
- Operational
  - Accessible to all – thought should be given to venue, cost and access requirements.
  - Evidence of feasibility (objectives should be achievable, budgets should balance, timelines should be realistic and input into activities by all involved as appropriate should be demonstrated).
  - Evidence of equitable and fair remuneration for professional artists /arts workers.
  - Evidence of appropriate documentation and/or evaluation of activities.
  - Evidence of collaboration and co-operation with proposed participants in project planning.
  - Evidence of organisational capacity of participating group especially with regard to monitoring participant experience and managing emerging issues.
  - Evidence of planning towards appropriate format for presentation or sharing of outcomes, as applicable.
