Do you want to support newcomer women’s empowerment and economic integration? If so, then Sister2Sister Advanced Leadership program (ALP) is now open for applications.
Sister2Sister Advanced Leadership program (ALP) is a skills and leadership development program that bridges the gap between employer needs and newcomer women skills through an intensive training in soft and hard skills capped by a paid internship. Sister2Sister ALP is offered in partnership with Schulich Executive Education Centre (Schulich ExecEd), a strategic business unit within the Schulich School of Business at York University. The centrepiece of the program is a foundational Project Management certificate – a highly transferable and recognized credential offered by Schulich.
This is a six-month, FREE program. The centerpiece of the program is a foundational Project Management certificate – a highly transferable and recognized credential. Graduates will then be able to transfer their learning in a workplace setting through a paid internship. Participants will also be provided with a suite of counselling services including resume writing, profile building, mentorship, coaching and leadership seminars.
Sisters in the program will be matched with a leadership and career coach to build their leadership capacity and support their job-search strategies. Participants will be provided with a suite of counseling services including resume writing, profile building, job interview rehearsals and self-advocacy training. The Sister2Sister Advanced Leadership program aims to build leadership capacity for racialized newcomer women while supporting their upskilling, upward mobility and economic integration and advancement.

Program Mode of Delivery:
- All training will be delivered/offered virtually via Zoom, however, the internships might be offered in person, hybrid or virtual depending on employers needs and requirements.
Employment
- Upon successfully completing all program components and graduation, the program offers two pathways to help skilled newcomer women enter and advance in the Canadian Labour Market. The first pathway is through a paid internship which gives these sisters their “first Canadian experience”. The second pathway is through job placements.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must have immigrated to Canada within the last 5 years
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
- Must be highly skilled with a postsecondary credential and work experience
- Must have a Canadian Language Benchmark of 7 or higher
- Must self-identify as a racialized woman
- Must reside in Ontario
- Ability to commit 8 hours a week for the program.
