Deadline: 15-Jul-2025
The World Food Programme (WFP) is inviting grant applications from Jamaica-based Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to support the delivery of cash and in-kind food assistance to disaster-affected populations. This initiative focuses on responding to national shocks such as tropical cyclones and earthquakes through large-scale food distributions.
The aim is to help crisis-affected populations in Jamaica meet essential food and nutrition needs during and after emergencies. The expected outcomes include improved food access for disaster-affected households, better national response through coordinated efforts, and enhanced accountability via community feedback mechanisms. Assistance may include food or cash-based transfers to protect livelihoods and nutrition.
Organisations will be responsible for various tasks such as registering and verifying affected individuals, distributing emergency food supplies, and conducting public information campaigns. They will also be expected to collect data on those in need and manage logistics from central warehouses to local distribution points, including last-mile delivery.
Eligible applicants must have at least seven years of experience in delivering in-kind food assistance and the capacity to serve 15,000 beneficiaries from 5,000 households. They should also be equipped to deploy quickly during disasters, coordinate with government agencies, and support outreach to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and persons with disabilities.
Applicants are expected to support WFP’s emergency food distribution for up to ten days post-disaster, ensure delivery of food baskets across the island, and actively collaborate with agencies like MLSS and ODPEM to streamline the response. Effective community engagement and regular data sharing are key elements of this program.
