Deadline: 21-Aug-2025
The Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus of Armenia (REC Caucasus Armenia) is inviting applications for demonstration projects focused on promoting sustainable, circular, and climate-resilient packaging solutions in Armenia’s fruit, berry, and nut value chains.
The objective is to select practical, scalable, and innovative projects that introduce environmentally responsible packaging solutions in the food sector. These projects must be implemented within Armenia and should aim to reduce environmental pollution by replacing conventional plastics with recyclable or agro-waste-based alternatives. Projects are expected to support sustainable trade, promote resource-efficient production, and follow 3R or 5R principles—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Refuse, and Recover. Proposals should clearly connect sustainable packaging with benefits like lower greenhouse gas emissions or enhanced export potential. Projects using digital tools to improve efficiency, tracking, or scale will be considered favorably.
Funding support ranges from EUR 5,000 to EUR 25,000 (in AMD equivalent), with a mandatory applicant contribution of at least 10% of the total budget in cash or in-kind. The equipment funded must benefit farmers and agribusinesses, and applicants should commit to sharing knowledge and practices with beneficiaries and the wider public. The project duration should not exceed 24 months and must be completed by November 2027.
Proposals should address one or more key areas: biodegradable or compostable packaging, replacement of multilayer plastic packaging with recyclable paper or cardboard, digital tracking tools, reusable or modular packaging for small producers, or improving market access and food safety compliance for exports.
Expected outcomes include the adoption of sustainable packaging materials, raised awareness among producers, and effective implementation of circular economy principles. Projects must also include at least 10% co-financing.
Eligible applicants are legally registered businesses, civil society organizations, research institutions, social enterprises, or consortia operating in Armenia. They must work in agriculture, food processing, recycling, packaging, or circular economy sectors and propose projects that promote sustainable packaging using agro-waste or resource-efficient solutions, with 10–30% co-financing.
