The Moreton Bay Region Business Excellence & Innovation Awards is proudly presented by Moreton Bay Regional Council and Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT). The Moreton Bay Region is a vibrant centre of innovation and enterprise, and the awards recognise the contribution of businesses and individuals to Moreton Bay’s economy.
The Moreton Bay Region Business Excellence & Innovation Awards return in 2021 to provide an opportunity for the region’s businesses to showcase their resilience and gain recognition for their achievements.
As a Moreton Bay Region Business Excellence & Innovation Award winner you can raise your business profile, enhance your brand and reputation, and gain recognition for your achievements.
To reflect Moreton Bay Regional Council’s Regional Economic Development Strategy, new categories have been carefully crafted to elevate the priority industries. There are 12 categories plus the Business of the Year Award at the 2021 Moreton Bay Region Business Excellence & Innovation Awards, including:
Award Categories:
- Employee of the Year
- This award will recognise an individual for their extraordinary professional achievement and contribution to their organisation. Applications for this category must be submitted by an employer or colleague of the nominee. The nominee must have worked with the organisation for a minimum of 24 months.
- Customer Service Excellence Award
- This award will recognise a business in the Moreton Bay Region that has reflected an excellence in customer service over the past 24 months, going above and beyond in their field to offer an exceptional product or service for customers.
- Award for Entrepreneur of the Year
- Moreton Bay Regional Council Buisness of the Year
- The winner of this prestigious award will be announced at the Gala Awards.
- The winner will be selected from the pool of finalists from eligible categories that have achieved the judges’ highest overall score.
- Finalists in the following categories are eligible to win the Moreton Bay Regional Council Business of the Year.
- The winner of this category will win $2,500 cash and a trophy.
- Exporting Excellence Award
- This award will recognise a business in the Moreton Bay Region that has exemplified excellence in exporting and outstanding performance in building trade between Moreton Bay and global export markets, in any industry or sector, over the past 24 months.
- Youth Innovation Excellence Award
- This award will recognise an individual or group aged 18 years and younger that study in the Moreton Bay Region, demonstrating excellence in a product, process, business model or marketing innovation, developed within the past 24 months, that challenges conventional thinking and demonstrates competitiveness. All nominees must be 18 years or younger as at 27 August 2021.
- OECD Definitions:
- Product Innovation: A good or service that is new or significantly improved. This includes significant improvements in technical specifications, components and materials, software in the product, user friendliness or other functional characteristics.
- Process Innovation: A new or significantly improved production or delivery method. This includes significant changes in techniques, equipment and/or software.
- Business Model (Organisational) Innovation: A new organisational model or method in business practices, workplace organisation or external relations.
- Marketing Innovation: A new marketing method involving significant changes in product design or packaging, product placement, product promotion or pricing.
- Food & Agribuisness Excellence Award
- This award will recognise outstanding achievements by a food and agribusiness business engaged in substantially earning its revenue from agriculture. This includes, but is not limited to, farming, processing and manufacturing and/or distribution of agricultural products.
- Eligible businesses:
- Regionally Grown produce (supply, sales, value adding)
- Beverage Producers
- Confectionery / Bakery Producers
- Dairy Producers
- Livestock Producers
- Seafood / Aquaculture Producers
- Wholesale food suppliers
- Craft brewers
- Food Manufacturing
- Advanced Manufacturing Excellence Award
- This award will recognise outstanding achievements by an advanced manufacturing business in the Moreton Bay Region that can demonstrate their commitment to delivering innovative technologies, tools, processes and techniques to transform materials or components into new products. Advanced manufacturing can include production activities that depend on information, automation, computation, software, sensing, and networking.
- Eligible businesses:
- Textile, clothing, footwear and leather manufacturing
- Wood and paper product manufacturing
- Printing, publishing and recorded media
- Petroleum, coal, chemical and associated product manufacturing
- Non-metallic mineral products
- Metal product manufacturing
- Machinery and equipment manufacturing
- Other manufacturing
- Environment & Sustainability Excellence Award
- This award will recognise a business in the Moreton Bay Region that has made a strong commitment to sustainable practices and environment improvement as part of their day-to-day business operations within the past 24 months. Nominations are sought from companies which demonstrate excellence in clean business practices and sustainable resource use, including energy, waste, water and recycling. Nominations may be for a single initiative or an overall strategy within a company.
- Innovate Moreton Bay Innovation Excellence Award
- This award will recognise a business within the Moreton Bay Region demonstrating excellence in a product, process, business model or marketing innovation that challenges conventional thinking and demonstrates competitiveness in the national or global market, regardless of company size. Nominations may be for a single initiative (product innovation, process innovation, business model innovation or marketing innovation) or an overall strategy within a company.

- This award will recognise a tourism, leisure or entertainment business operating in the Moreton Bay Region that can demonstrate their commitment to consistently delivering an exceptional visitor experience over the past 24 months, which allows them to stand out from their competitors and enhances the appeal of the Moreton Bay Region.

- Bed & Breakfast Accommodation
- Self-contained Short Stay Apartments
- Caravan and Camping
- Music and other cultural events
- Sporting events
- Local and regional events
- Trade and other Expos
- Enterpreneur of the Year
- This award will recognise and celebrate an enterprising individual, either a founder or owner of a business, who adopts new or innovative ideas to generate a new product, service, business process or enter a new market.
- OECD Definition of Entrepreneur
- Entrepreneurs are those persons (business owners) who seek to generate value, through the creation or expansion of economic activity, by identifying and exploiting new products, processes or markets.
- Not- For- Profit Excellence Award
- This award recognises a not-for-profit organisation in the Moreton Bay Region that, over the past 24 months, has delivered strong, community-based initiatives that positively impacts on, and delivers long-term benefits for the community. These organisations may operate social enterprises, deliver social services and/or undertake charitable work and exist for educational, charitable or social reasons and from which its shareholders, owners or trustees do not benefit financially from its activities.
- Buisnesswoman of the Year
- The Businesswoman of the Year award recognises an individual woman who has made an outstanding contribution to the Moreton Bay business landscape. It seeks to reward dedication to Moreton Bay and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence in business.
