Deadline: 13-Feb-2022
The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking proposals for the “Poultry and Eggs Value Chain Assessment Program.”
The key challenge they have identified that drives persistent undernutrition in Mozambique is the dramatically insufficient consumption of foods rich in micronutrients, quality protein, and essential fatty acids.
The have therefore chosen animal-source foods (ASF) as an entry point in Mozambique, specifically focusing on poultry, fish and eggs.
Objectives
The assessment has two key objectives:
- Identification of existing actors in the poultry and egg value chains, their activities, business relationships, and current constraints and opportunities for expansion.
- Provide a menu of high potential areas of investment and partners for increasing the availability and convenience of ASF for low-income consumers. Options may be commodity specific or cut across different value chains.
Deliverables
- Workplan
- Desk review report summarizing known supply constraints and opportunities, and list of gaps and key questions for data collection
- Field data collection plan
- Draft report and presentation of results (including description of value chain actors and activities and assessment of priority investments and partners
- Comprehensive database (type, contact & location) of value chain actors (ideally ODK)
- Validation and “idea generation” workshop where results are discussed with stakeholder’s teams (demand creation and supply chains) to clarify entry points
- Final report, including GAIN feedback and outcomes of validation workshop
Criteria
The proposal should include:
- A technical proposal outlining the case study objectives and methodological approaches.
- Detailed profiles (qualification, expertise, relevant experience etc.) of the agencies and individuals who will be completing the work including their full names, their expertise, and publications in relevant research. The applicant team must include a partner based in Mozambique with the necessary relevant experience, including letters of commitment.
