Deadline: 29-Aug-2025
The Climate and Clean Air Coalition is requesting applications to integrate a National eCooking component into Nigeria’s National Clean Cooking Policy Implementation Plan and to develop funding proposals for e-cooking implementation.
The estimated project cost is $300,000.
By the end of the project, the Government of Nigeria is expected to endorse an eCooking component to their National Clean Cooking Policy Implementation Plan. This includes an exploratory study building on the GeCCo Nigeria eCooking Readiness Assessment 2024. The study will explore ownership and uptake of electrical appliances, available financing options for energy-efficient eCooking appliances, and characterize market segments considering factors like energy access, fuel use, location, income, and gender dynamics.
An eCooking component will be developed based on existing baseline studies and findings. This component will promote the most suitable technology or technology blends for each market segment. It will cover opportunities to embed eCooking in other national strategies and large initiatives such as Mission300, including a situational analysis, strategic objectives, key activities with targets, timeframe, costs, risk assessment, and staffing needs. Barrier analysis and new opportunities will also be included.
Engagement with the Government of Nigeria will include stakeholder validation workshops to review and approve the eCooking component. A steering group of 10-12 key stakeholders will guide and validate the strategy throughout its development, incorporating findings from eCooking baseline studies.
The government will also endorse 5-7 project proposals or initiatives aimed at scaling up eCooking, supported by public and private sectors. These drafts will detail project names, sector descriptions, outcomes, implementing entities, stakeholders, and links to policies and plans.
A plan to support three selected projects will be designed in coordination with public and private institutions, identifying financial opportunities. Workshops will be held with financial, government, and private sector stakeholders to explore financing instruments for organic waste management projects.
To be eligible, proposals must be complete, submitted by NGOs, IGOs, or other not-for-profit entities, and fit within the budget and time frame (less than 24 months). For-profit entities may only participate as stakeholders, co-funders, or end users and should be involved only if essential for project success.
Evaluation criteria include a clear plan for achieving outcomes, strategies for scaling or sustaining results, contributions to SLCP emissions reduction with co-benefits, and involvement of relevant stakeholders.
