The World Food Programme (WFP) is calling for proposals to support in-kind food assistance for Wiwa indigenous communities impacted by lockdowns in rural areas of Riohacha and San Juan del Cesar, located in La Guajira, Colombia.
The WFP office in Riohacha aims to complement the aid provided by UARIV by delivering food support to vulnerable populations in rural municipalities. The assistance will involve distributing individual food baskets, each weighing 7.8 kg per person, to communities such as Siminke, Marocaso, Sabanas de Joaquina, Potrerito, Rinconá, Wikúmake, La Laguna, Guamaka, Múkura, Kunshámake, and El Naranjal.
Food supplies will be provided by WFP Colombia and delivered to the designated participants by the selected sponsor. The affected areas are closest to the municipal capitals of Distracción, Fonseca, and San Juan del Cesar. As such, WFP seeks operational support from Cooperating Partners (CPs)—non-governmental organizations active in these areas—who will implement the food distribution under formal agreements.
The main objective of this initiative is to support vulnerable communities suffering from the effects of armed violence by providing essential food assistance. The project specifically aims to prevent further deterioration in food security by supplying food baskets that meet the caloric needs of the affected individuals.
This intervention targets Wiwa indigenous communities across various rural locations in Riohacha and San Juan del Cesar, including Limón Carrizal and Bunkuámake, in addition to the previously mentioned areas.
The focus area of this initiative is food security, particularly food assistance, and it is limited to eligible locations within Colombia.
