Deadline: 05-January-2026
The Mophradat has announced its Residency Program for Performing Artists in partnership with Kunstencentrum BUDA and NEXT Festival in Belgium, offering a three-week residency opportunity for a performing artist from the Arab world.
Kunstencentrum BUDA, located in Kortrijk, is a major space for performing arts, offering artists time, space, customized support, and a network of artistic and professional contacts. NEXT Festival is an international cross-border festival for dance, theatre, and performance, featuring works by renowned and emerging artists across locations in and around Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai-Valenciennes.
Applicants must have developed and presented previous works. Applicants must be working on a new and original project. Applicants must be working with contemporary forms of performance (classical theatre, community theatre, and classical western dance such as ballet and so forth are not eligible).
Using BUDA’s facilities and artistic support, the selected artist will finalize a new production and premiere their work at NEXT Festival at the conclusion of the residency. The partners will provide the selected artist, working with a maximum of three collaborators, with travel, visa costs, and per diem, along with a contribution to production costs and a presentation fee. The total support provided, covering travel, visa, residency per diems, co-production costs, and presentation fee, amounts to 10,000 euros.
Unconventional projects dealing with experimental forms and/or concerned with progressive discourses are encouraged to apply. Unsuccessful applicants to previous editions are eligible to re-apply. Applicants must have advanced and be in the final development phase of their projects by September 2026 and have confirmed co-producers and/or a financing plan, as this residency only partially contributes to the production costs. Proposals for concerts are not eligible for this call.
The applications will be assessed by Mophradat, with final selection made in collaboration with BUDA and NEXT. Preselected applicants will be contacted for a conversation in February 2026, and all applicants will receive a response by March 1, 2026. Only one application will be selected.
The selected artist will sign separate agreements with Mophradat, BUDA, and NEXT. A short written report must be submitted to Mophradat within two weeks of the residency’s end. Interested artists must complete the online application form in one sitting, as it cannot be saved or revisited, and any material sent by email will not be considered. Mophradat emphasizes that applications should reflect the applicant’s authentic voice and discourages the use of AI-generated responses.
The deadline for applications is 5 January 2026.
