Deadline: 01-Dec-2025
Applications open for Museum Grant Program to support museums that demonstrate strong governance and strategic development.
Applicants are encouraged to follow good governance practices, set and monitor long-term goals, and show clear connections between public consultation, planned programs, their impact, and evaluation results. Museums that value training and learning opportunities for staff and volunteers and adhere to the Standards for Saskatchewan Museums are well-positioned for consideration.
Priority will be given to initiatives that ensure equitable distribution of funding across the province and increase participation opportunities for people in rural areas and the Northern District for Sport, Culture and Recreation. The program also emphasizes inclusion of First Nations and Métis peoples, young people, and newcomers. Museums implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and supporting Indigenous self-determination, as well as Indigenous, ethno-cultural, or multicultural museums, are encouraged to apply.
The program’s Stream One offers a simplified application process for first-time applicants, covering up to 100% of annual eligible expenses to a maximum of $5,000. No financial contribution from the applicant is required, making it ideal for organizations seeking a less intensive, capacity-friendly granting process. All first-time applicants to the Museum Grant Program must apply through this stream.
Eligible applicants must be museums as defined by the International Council of Museums: permanent, not-for-profit institutions that research, collect, conserve, interpret, and exhibit tangible and intangible heritage. Museums must be accessible, inclusive, and foster diversity and sustainability, while operating ethically and professionally with community participation. This includes building-based museums, ecomuseums, and virtual museums. Applicants must maintain separate financial records for museum operations and be registered non-profit organizations based in Saskatchewan.
Organizations must have been in existence as registered non-profits for at least one full fiscal year prior to the application deadline, be in good standing with the Information Services Corporation, have no outstanding grant follow-ups with SaskCulture, and provide a signed copy of their most recent annual financial statement, verified by two authorized board members, to demonstrate good standing.
This grant program provides a meaningful opportunity for museums across Saskatchewan to strengthen their governance, expand participation, and enhance their impact in the communities they serve.
