The Alfred Kordelin Foundation promotes breakthroughs in civilization through its activities by supporting both individuals and communities in the field of art. Grants are awarded on an annual basis to selected fields, with 2025 open for visual arts, music, and architecture and applied arts, while 2026 will focus on literature and performing arts.
Individuals can receive a personal work grant of EUR 45,000 for full-time continuous work over 12–18 months, enabling artists to challenge themselves and develop professionally. The grant may include both a working and an expense share to cover materials, purchased services, occupational pension, accident insurance, and group life insurance. Communities can apply for a working or cost grant ranging from EUR 50,000 to 100,000 for projects lasting up to 24 months, covering salaries and project expenses.
Applications must be submitted electronically through the foundation’s grant system. Required attachments for individuals include a curriculum vitae, work plan, expression of interest, and image attachments for architecture, applied arts, and visual arts. Communities must provide a CV of the project leader or members, a project plan, expression of interest, image attachments, project budget, and annual financial statements. All documents must be in PDF format and submitted before the deadline.
The evaluation process occurs in three stages: assessment by field-specific experts, joint pool evaluation for successful applications, and final decisions by the Foundation Board in November 2025. Grants support immediate commencement of work within the following calendar year, but retroactive funding is not permitted. Applicants must also submit a report on the use of any previous Kordelin Foundation grant before applying for a new one.
