Deadline: 19-Sep-2025
The Rotunda Gallery offers a professional exhibition space that highlights contemporary visual arts practices. Its goal is to support and develop the visual arts community within the area. The gallery values diverse artistic perspectives and welcomes various media, including painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, and mixed media, while upholding intellectual freedom and recognizing the public setting of the venue.
The gallery features a curved wooden wall equipped with a 48-foot picture rail and 48 inches of vertical hanging space above a bench. It is specifically designed for two-dimensional artwork that can be displayed using a suspended rod system. Sculptures are not accepted unless they can be mounted on the wall using this system.
Only two-dimensional work will be considered for exhibition. Artists from Ontario are eligible to apply, but those from the Region of Waterloo or with connections to the area are given preference to promote local artistic development. Artists may not exhibit in consecutive years to ensure more individuals have the opportunity to showcase their work.
Evaluation criteria include artistic excellence, innovation, impact on community cultural development, and contribution to artistic and cultural diversity. The work should be original, though printmaking and photography editions are acceptable. Photocopy prints are not permitted. Jurors will also assess whether the work has been exhibited before and whether it engages viewers meaningfully.
Applications must include a brief summary (up to 250 words) of the artist’s background, CV or biography, and a cohesive presentation of the proposed exhibit. Artists should upload up to three supporting documents and submit 8 to 10 high-resolution JPG images of past or current works, with an accompanying list detailing titles, media, sizes, and years. Captions may also be added. A 250-word description of the proposed exhibition is required, outlining themes, media, and the number of works intended for display.
