Deadline: 08-Jan-2026
The Doha Film Institute’s Feature Film Grants Programme offers a significant opportunity for filmmakers seeking both creative and financial support to develop and complete their projects.
The programme is designed to identify emerging talent and elevate new cinematic voices, with a strong focus on stories that resonate across cultures while remaining authentic and original.
The initiative champions projects that explore bold ideas and expand the possibilities of cinematic expression. By supporting filmmakers through key stages of the filmmaking process, the programme helps strengthen creative vision while contributing to the growth of meaningful and diverse cinema worldwide.
The grants are open to Qatari and international first- and second-time directors, as well as established directors from the Middle East and North Africa region. This approach ensures a balance between nurturing new voices and supporting experienced regional filmmakers as they bring impactful stories to the screen.
Funding is available for feature-length narrative, documentary, and experimental or essay films, with support offered at the development, production, and post-production stages. Narrative feature films may receive up to USD 20,000 for development, up to USD 100,000 for production, and up to USD 75,000 for post-production, allowing filmmakers to receive tailored support based on their project’s needs.
Documentary feature films are eligible for funding of up to USD 15,000 at the development stage, up to USD 75,000 for production, and up to USD 50,000 for post-production. This support enables documentary filmmakers to pursue in-depth research, strong storytelling, and high-quality production values.
Experimental and essay films are also supported through the programme, with grants of up to USD 10,000 for development and up to USD 30,000 for production or post-production. This reflects the Institute’s commitment to encouraging innovative forms of storytelling and creative risk-taking.
Eligible projects must be feature-length films of at least 65 minutes, with no restrictions on genre or format. The programme emphasizes realistic budgeting and professional collaboration, often encouraging or requiring the involvement of a producer separate from the director to strengthen the project’s overall execution.
Through this opportunity, the Doha Film Institute continues to empower filmmakers by providing essential resources and guidance. By investing in new talent and compelling stories, the programme helps shape a vibrant, diverse, and forward-looking global film industry.
