Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The Paul Mellon Centre is inviting applications for the Event Support Grants, available in both the autumn and spring funding rounds. These grants are intended to help organisations host events related to British art or architectural history. Eligible event types include lectures, conferences, workshops, symposia, and seminars aimed at scholars or wider audiences at a scholarly level.
Each grant offers funding of up to £3,000, which will be paid directly to the hosting organisation in a single payment. The grant may cover various costs such as venue hire, speaker travel and accommodation, speaker fees, staffing, catering, and printing. It can also fund publicity, accessibility tools like live captioning or BSL translators, video or audio recording equipment, and virtual event platform fees.
The grant programme supports educational and research activities in British art and architectural history, from the medieval period to the present day. The scope is broad and includes not only art made in Britain or by British artists but also art related to British cultural history. However, the programme does not support field archaeology, current architectural practice, or performing arts. Applications in photography, performance, film, or digital media must clearly demonstrate relevance to British art studies.
Only organisations are eligible to apply; individual applicants are not accepted. Collaborative events are allowed, but one organisation must act as the lead for administering the grant. Events must take place within a year of receiving the grant and should be scheduled at least two months after the application deadline. Applicants must provide detailed event information, such as confirmed speakers and venue details.
After the event, recipients must submit a detailed written report, typically around 500 words, outlining the event’s content, speakers, papers, and attendance. This report must be submitted within three months of the event and will be shared with the Advisory Council. If the event leads to further outcomes like exhibitions or publications, these should also be reported to the Grants and Fellowships Manager. All successful applicants will receive guidelines on acknowledging the Paul Mellon Centre’s support.
