Deadline: 31-Dec-2025
The Arts Council Tokyo has launched the Tokyo Arts and Culture Appreciation Support Grant Program (Grant for Accessibility) 2025, aiming to make arts and culture more inclusive and reachable for everyone in society.
The program seeks to increase access and participation by supporting initiatives that enhance accessibility for audiences—especially those with visual, hearing, or mobility challenges. By investing in inclusive experiences, the Council strives to foster a cultural landscape where every person can enjoy artistic expression in meaningful ways.
For 2025, the grant introduces a new focus called the “Momentum-Building Category,” timed to leverage the global attention generated by major events like the World Athletics Championships and the Deaflympics. This enhancement reflects Arts Council Tokyo’s commitment to spreading awareness about accessibility and embedding inclusive practices in cultural events across the city.
Eligibility has also been expanded this year. While previous rounds required applicants to be based in Tokyo, the 2025 grant welcomes organizations from anywhere in Japan—provided they implement accessibility initiatives within Tokyo-based exhibitions or performances. This opens the door for a broader range of cultural groups to contribute to inclusive arts programming in the capital.
The grant will support the actual costs of accessibility-related services for audiences, covering up to a maximum of 1.5 million yen, with a subsidy rate of 10/10. This ensures that initiatives such as sign language interpretation, tactile materials, assistive technologies, or disability-friendly seating can be fully funded, reducing financial barriers for organizations committed to accessibility.
In addition to financial support, the grant is integrated with the services offered by the Tokyo Arts & Culture Consultation Support Center, known as “Art Noto.” Grantees will have access to consultations, training sessions, and guidance aimed at strengthening their capacity to deliver accessible audience experiences and ensure long-term improvements.
This grant represents a significant opportunity for cultural organizations across Japan to elevate accessibility in arts programming, driving positive change in how Tokyo’s cultural landscape is experienced by all.
