Deadline: 03-Sep-2025
The Danish Arts Foundation is currently accepting applications for its Nordic Translations Grant Program. This initiative aims to support the publication of high-quality Nordic literature translated into Nordic languages other than the original. Grants may also be provided for special issues of magazines targeted at Nordic audiences.
If the awarded grant is DKK 100,000 or less, it will be paid as close as possible to the project start date mentioned in the application. For grants exceeding DKK 100,000 with a project duration of over six months, the funding is disbursed in instalments.
The program supports translations of fiction for adults, children, and young adults, as well as general cultural literature, non-fiction, essays, comics, and graphic novels. However, it does not cover translations of research, educational content, regional or local history, handbooks, hobby books, self-help books, catalogues, or the applicant’s own work. Text revisions are also ineligible.
Only Nordic publishers planning to translate a work from Danish into another Nordic language can apply under this program. Publishers outside the Nordic region must apply through the ‘Literary Production and Translation’ fund. Applications should be submitted in the country where the original work was published, so for Danish works, applications must go to the Danish Arts Foundation’s Committee for Literary Project Funding.
During evaluation, the committee places emphasis on the quality of the original work and the translator’s qualifications. Preference is given to translators who are professionals with experience in the same genre and who translate into their mother tongue. It is also important that the work is translated from the original publication language.
Applicants must include the translator’s CV (no more than one A4 page) detailing education, experience, and selected translations. A three-page excerpt of the original Danish text must be attached. If the applicant holds a non-Danish bank account, a completed bank information form is also required.
File attachments must not exceed 15 MB in total and should be submitted in PDF, Word, or Excel format—ZIP files are not accepted. Once submitted, applications cannot be edited. If any required information is missing, a new complete application must be submitted before the deadline. The committee will only consider the latest submission.
Applications must include all required attachments to be processed. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that the application is correctly filled and complete. The email receipt will list all attached documents, so applicants should review it for confirmation.
Applications and any awarded grants cannot be transferred to another legal entity or company. Therefore, applicants must clearly identify themselves before submission.
