Deadline: 25-Oct-2025
The Asahi Shimbun Foundation Grants is accepting applications for the development and improvement of culture and the arts through subsidies for concerts, art exhibitions, etc.
A new grant opportunity is available to support projects in the fields of music and art. The grant is intended for projects that are of significance for the enlightenment and dissemination of arts; provide artists with opportunities to exhibit; and contribute to the improvement of local arts and culture.
The types of projects eligible for this grant include performances and festivals of classical music, opera, ballet, Noh, Bunraku, Kabuki, and traditional Japanese music. For art, eligible projects include exhibitions and art festivals of paintings, sculptures, photographs, and videos. The event must be recognized as having a high artistic standard and be run by professional or aspiring professional artists.
Eligible applicants include public interest corporations, non-profit organizations, and similar voluntary organizations and individuals who organize artistic activities. Groups and individuals who perform or exhibit at art festivals organized by such corporations are also eligible. A voluntary association is defined as an organization with formal rules and independent annual accounting. If a group does not meet this definition, the representative should apply as an individual.
Certain applications will not be accepted. These include applications from companies and commercial organizations, or from individuals and groups performing at events organized by them. Events hosted or co-hosted by companies are also ineligible, though sponsorship is permitted. Public interest corporations related to local governments without their own bank accounts cannot apply, and there is no copayment business. Companies designated as managers of public facilities can apply to host events at those facilities. For projects held overseas by Japanese residents, or projects organized by foreigners, the applicant must have a current address in Japan, a contact person in Japan, and a Japanese bank account. The grant amount ranges from 50,000 yen to 1 million yen per project, with a total of 15 million yen available.
Priority will be given to applications from areas affected by large-scale disasters and projects aimed at supporting these areas. Applicants proposing support for disaster-stricken areas must clearly describe the specific support they will provide and how they will provide it in their application. Most grants will range from 100,000 yen to several hundred thousand yen. Applicants are expected to have a financial plan that includes their own funds and other sources of funding.
