Deadline: 30-Sep-2025
The Paul Mellon Centre announces its annual Digital Project Grants to support organisations undertaking original research that uses digital media.
These grants help organisations, galleries, or museums carry out innovative digital research projects. Funding may cover costs for curators or research scholars working on digital projects or research leading to digital or online outputs.
Projects may include online exhibitions or digital curation related to British art or architectural history, online catalogues or databases of collections or archives, or research using digital technologies like 3-D scanning or large datasets.
Grants offer up to £40,000. Organisations can apply for funds to cover replacement staff costs, providing temporary cover for curatorial staff working on digital projects. Up to 33% of the project budget may be allocated to capital costs such as digitising resources or web development. The award is paid in one installment directly to the organisation.
Applicants should disclose any other financial support already received or expected from other sources.
The funding supports research, education, and knowledge dissemination in British art and architectural history, covering the medieval period to the present and a broad range of cultural contexts. The remit includes art made in Britain or by British artists but is not limited strictly to the British Isles geographically.
Grants are not offered for field archaeology, contemporary architecture practice, or performing arts. Applications involving photography, performance, film, or digital media must clearly show relevance to British art studies.
The award is open to both UK and international organisations, but applications from individuals are not accepted. Applicants must show that their project includes scholarly research within the scope of British art studies.
