Deadline: 02-Sep-2025
The Ministry of Culture is offering grants for the internationalization of art galleries for 2025, aimed at contributing to a greater understanding of Spanish art worldwide.
The total funding allocated to this call is 700,000 euros, with up to 50,000 euros per project. All expenses directly related to and strictly necessary for the project are considered eligible, provided they are effectively paid before the justification period ends. This includes accreditation, rental, and setup of the fair stand; transport, insurance, and packaging of works; and other direct expenses, including free publications. Travel and accommodation expenses for artists and staff are also eligible within specified limits, but not for general attendees. Travel by economy-class plane and train tickets are subsidized, while private car travel is compensated at a rate of €0.26 per kilometer. Taxi and other public transport expenses may not exceed 5% of the aid granted.
The grant will not cover investments and acquisitions of materials or equipment, ordinary operating or administrative expenses, protocol and representation costs, financial or tax expenses, payments of fees or personal income taxes, rental and maintenance of regular work spaces, or the fees of gallery staff. Expenses for publishing catalogues and printed material that are not free are also excluded. To comply with the “Do no significant harm” principle, the eligibility criteria exclude activities related to fossil fuels, waste landfills, incinerators, and mechanical-biological treatment plants.
These grants are for entities or individuals with permanent tax residence in Spain, including those registered in the Special Regime for Self-Employed Workers. Entities and individuals must meet the requirements established in the order and current regulations on subsidies. Entities comprising the Public Sector, consortia, associations or other public entities, non-profit entities, groups of natural or legal persons, civil societies, property communities, and other types of economic units without legal personality are excluded. Additionally, those who meet any of the circumstances established in Article 13 of Law 38/2003 may not obtain beneficiary status. A maximum of one fair per applicant will be funded.
The Evaluation Committee will evaluate applications based on the following criteria: the number of national or international fairs the gallery attended in the last two years; exhibition projects in which at least one Spanish artist has participated; international projection and impact of the fair for which you are requesting assistance; scope and national projection of the activity or project, taking into account the participation of artists of Spanish nationality; number of participating creators; the gallery’s editorial line and promotion of its artists through publications; proposals from galleries located or with artists residing in municipalities affected by the DANA; and the projects’ contribution to the development of the key pillars of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan: job creation and maintenance, ecological transition and territorial cohesion actions, and digitalization.
Applicants must submit their applications through the Ministry of Culture’s electronic office using standardized forms in Spanish. The application must include a supporting statement detailing the activity and purpose of the grant, a report on activities from 2023 and 2024, a financial report with a detailed budget, and a declaration of all other requested subsidies and grants. Several other declarations are also required, including those regarding the de minimis regime, reimbursement obligations, and compliance with the “no significant harm” principle. Incomplete applications or those with inaccurate data may be denied or considered withdrawn after a 10-day period for correction.
