Deadline: 13-Oct-2025
The Film Fund invites applications for the realization of Dutch minority co-productions in the categories of feature film, long animated film, and documentary.
International co-production sharpens the creator’s artistic vision, provides a broader financial base for film projects, and contributes to the international visibility of Dutch films, film professionals, and the film industry. It also promotes professional expertise and creative exchange. Artistic and financial collaboration positively impacts the visibility of Dutch talent abroad and offers Dutch creators a greater opportunity to break through in the international market.
The scheme is aimed at Dutch co-producers of Dutch minority film projects in the categories of feature film, long animated film or documentary. The submitted film plans are of high artistic and content quality and contain substantial creative and technical input from film professionals from the Netherlands.
Applications can be submitted by a Dutch minority co-producer representing a production company established for at least two years in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, a member state of the EU, the EEA, or Switzerland. The company must be a legal entity that continuously produces and exploits films and audiovisual productions, excluding sole proprietorships or general partnerships. The applicant must also have been primarily responsible, as majority producer, for the realization of at least one feature film with a cinema release in the Netherlands for feature film or long animated film applications, or at least one long documentary with a cinema release in the Netherlands for documentary applications.
For feature films and long animated films with a budget of up to €3 million, a maximum contribution of €250,000 can be requested, while films exceeding €3 million may apply for up to €450,000. For documentaries, a maximum contribution of €70,000 is available. Applications will be assessed both on artistic and content-related quality by an advisory committee, and on production and business aspects by the Production and Subsidy Office departments. Decisions are made by the director or manager, based on limited resources and priorities set out in the Implementation Sub-Regulations.
To qualify for funding, a film production must meet cultural criteria, such as being set predominantly in the Netherlands, the EU, the EEA, or Switzerland, including characters from Dutch culture or the Dutch language area, having a script mainly in Dutch, being based on a Dutch literary work, or focusing on themes related to art, artists, historical figures, events, or Dutch cultural, social, or political issues. State aid subsidies are capped at 50% of production costs, except in the case of cross-border productions, difficult films, or productions involving countries from the OECD DAC list, where higher percentages may be granted under certain conditions.
Applications are evaluated on the quality of the film production, including substantive quality and feasibility, the track record of involved professionals, and the contribution to diversity and strengthening of the Dutch film climate. Only applications with positive evaluations across these criteria will be considered eligible for funding.
