The Arts Grants program offers a valuable opportunity for artists and creatives in Walyalup | Fremantle to bring meaningful artistic, cultural, and creative projects to life.
Designed to support local talent and strengthen community connection, the program invests in initiatives that celebrate Fremantle’s unique creative identity while engaging residents in enriching experiences.
Funding is available for projects that nurture artistic practice, involve the local community in dynamic ways, and contribute to the vibrant cultural fabric of the city. Activities can include music, visual art, performance, writing, or multimedia projects, provided they go beyond simple presentation and actively invite participation. This could mean incorporating workshops, artist talks, school collaborations, or interactive community activities that ensure people are not only audiences but active contributors.
Eligibility extends to individual artists with an ABN, creative professionals, and not-for-profit cultural organizations. Projects must be fully developed before applying, with confirmed venues, lead artists, and clear community engagement strategies. Successful applications will show strong artistic merit while demonstrating how they connect with and benefit the Fremantle community.
While the program encourages a wide range of creative expression, there are exclusions. For-profit organizations, projects without community engagement, or initiatives with no public outcome within Fremantle are not eligible. Applications that focus on large capital expenditure, ongoing operational costs, or activities that fall under the responsibility of other levels of government will also not be considered. Additionally, recurring events without significant new elements, online projects with no clear local impact, and activities such as conferences or fundraisers are excluded.
With a competitive success rate, applicants are encouraged to present well-structured, innovative projects that embody Fremantle’s creative spirit and bring people together through the arts. By supporting these initiatives, the Arts Grants program ensures that the city continues to thrive as a hub of cultural vibrancy and community participation.
