Deadline: 24-Apr-23
The Asia New Zealand Foundation is offering a Curators Tour Programme for up to six New Zealand art curators to attend the Frieze Seoul Art Fair in September 2023.
The purpose of the Curators Tour is to enable New Zealand visual arts curators to immerse themselves in the contemporary arts community in selected Asian countries to:
- advance their professional networks in Asia and develop their own practice
- increase awareness of artistic and cultural practice in Asia
- contribute to the long-term development of audiences for Asian arts in New Zealand
- explore ideas and networks that could lead to future collaborations or creation of work
- develop and share market knowledge of contemporary performing arts practice in Asia with the New Zealand arts sector.
What is the opportunity?
- Delegates will visit Freize Seoul and be introduced to the main cultural sites in Seoul as well as selected galleries before the commencement of the Fair. Delegates will also attend a hosted networking event.
- During the period of the Fair, delegates will have flexibility to develop their own engagement plan, before regrouping at the conclusion.
- Each delegate will be expected to develop their own individualised plan that maximises the opportunities to increase their understanding of current Asian arts practices and to network with artists and curators during the four-day period of the fair.
What’s Covered?
- Costs associated with flights, accommodation, and entry to scheduled activities will be civered by the Foundation. A per diem will also be provided.
- Successful applicants are required to arrange their own travel insurance and travel documentation (including entry visas) at their own expense, as well as their own transfers to and from their closest New Zealand airport.
- Applicants must be available for the full period of the visit. A report will be required from each delegate within one month of returning to New Zealand.
Eligibility Criteria
- The programme targets curators and gallerists, with preference given to senior decision makers, and limited places available for emerging practitioners.
- Applicants must have the ability to make or influence programming decisions and have a proven interest in presenting the work of Asian visual artists.
