Applications are now open for the Darebin Art Prize to bring together contemporary artwork across all media, from painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and craft, through to video art and more.
Entry is open to artists living and working in Australia, the prize-winning entry shall be acquired by Darebin Council for $10,000 and will enter the Darebin Art Collection, upon payment of the prize money to the winning artist, a Non-Acquisitive People’s Choice Award of $1,000 will be paid to the finalist with the most People’s Choice Votes at Bundoora Homestead Art Centre.
Finalists will be selected by a pre-selection committee, and only those chosen will be exhibited. Notification of finalist selection will be provided by Friday 12 December 2025. All works must arrive at Bundoora Homestead Art Centre during opening hours between 11am-4pm Wednesday to Friday and 10am–4pm Saturday from 7–14 February 2026. Works must be suitably framed, ready to hang, or otherwise appropriately prepared for display. Any artwork damaged in transit or without appropriate display preparation may be excluded from judging.
The exhibition will run from Wednesday 18 February to Saturday 20 June 2026, and all selected works must be available for display for the entire duration. The prize-winning entry will be acquired into the Darebin Art Collection, and the date of birth of finalists will be displayed on artwork labels. A panel of judges, including two independent professionals from the Australian visual art sector and a Bundoora Homestead Art Centre staff member, will determine the prize-winning work, with the decision being final.
All works submitted for the Award must be original works by the artist whose name appears on the entry form and completed between September 2023 and September 2025, all works submitted must be attributed with full copyright of the artist and must not infringe on the moral, intellectual or cultural rights of another person or business, artists must provide with this entry form a non-refundable handling fee of $30, a one-page Curriculum Vitae in PDF format only, a full high-resolution image of the actual work submitted for the Darebin Art Prize, a short artist statement about the work submitted.
