Deadline: 10-Nov-2025
The Japan Foundation, Bangkok is welcoming applications for its Small Grant Program, designed to support nonprofit organizations in Thailand that strengthen cultural exchange and deepen understanding of Japan.
This initiative is aimed at institutions, universities, research associations, NGOs, and cultural spaces committed to fostering dialogue through creative, cultural, and academic projects.
The program offers two main categories of support. The first focuses on projects concerning Japan, such as arts and culture initiatives or academic activities that promote Japanese studies in Thailand. Examples include art exhibitions, film screenings, performing arts events, joint research, conferences, and seminars. The second category supports two-way intellectual and cultural exchange, encouraging collaborative work between Japanese and Thai cultural professionals. These projects may take the form of workshops, joint productions, research collaborations, or exhibitions that engage communities while developing the next generation of cultural leaders.
Funding is provided on a cost-sharing basis. Grants of up to 50,000 Thai Baht are available for projects in the first category, while those under the second may receive up to 100,000 Thai Baht. The program emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and the potential for projects to develop into new initiatives, with particular priority given to activities that expand the reach of Japanese studies, produce tangible results such as published research, or introduce pioneering elements.
Eligibility is limited to nonprofit organizations operating in Thailand, with projects expected to be carried out within the country and completed during the Japanese fiscal year, from April 1 to March 31. Applicants must demonstrate institutional capacity and contribute to project costs. Individual applications, commercial ventures, or projects focused solely on natural sciences, political or religious activities, and military-related themes are excluded from consideration.
The program underscores the importance of accessibility, creativity, and sustainability in building connections between Japan, Thailand, and the wider region. By supporting fresh collaborations and diverse perspectives, the Japan Foundation, Bangkok seeks to create meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange and academic engagement that leave a lasting impact.
