Deadline: 07-Oct-2025
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program, in partnership with the Center for Advanced Arabic Study in Cairo (CAASIC), is accepting applications for the Fulbright Arabic Language Study Grants for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Applicants must be accepted into the 9-month Fall and Spring program at CAASIC, a rigorous Arabic language course hosted at the American University in Cairo (AUC). This program is designed for U.S. students with advanced Arabic proficiency who seek to enhance their fluency while immersing themselves in Egyptian and Middle Eastern culture.
Grants are awarded through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program to candidates who are selected for the CAASIC Program and meet Fulbright’s eligibility criteria. All grantees must obtain clearance from the Government of Egypt before awards are issued, with assistance from the Fulbright Commission. Final approval depends on medical clearance, security conditions in Egypt, funding availability, and the operational status of the Fulbright Program and host institutions.
The award includes a monthly stipend equivalent to EGP 35,000, intended to cover living expenses such as housing, meals, and incidentals. The grant lasts for nine months, from approximately September 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027. Additional one-time allowances are provided for excess baggage, housing, local transportation, and relocation expenses. Housing is offered in shared accommodation at CAASIC facilities.
Other benefits include round-trip international travel, accident and sickness insurance, 24/7 mental health support, and 12 months of non-competitive eligibility for employment within the U.S. federal government.
Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens with a completed undergraduate degree and advanced Arabic language skills. They must meet CAASIC’s language requirements and submit a letter of acceptance for the 9-month program. Candidates should have a strong interest in Egypt, Arabic, or the MENA region, a thoughtful career plan, and a commitment to cultural exchange.
Applicants affiliated with the U.S. State Department or related agencies must wait one year after employment ends to apply. Eligible degree levels include bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral students. Permanent residents are not eligible.
