Deadline: 02-Dec-2025
The Japan Foundation has launched the Grant Program for Enhancing Cultural Exchange and Networks in Asia as part of its long-term initiative, the WA Project 2.0: Partnership to Co-create a Future with the Next Generation.
Running intensively through fiscal year 2033, this initiative was introduced to mark the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in 2023 and aims to deepen collaboration and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and ASEAN.
The program reflects five core objectives: building a foundation of trust between Japan and ASEAN, strengthening multi-faceted human networks, fostering collaboration on global challenges, nurturing the next generation as cultural bridges, and supporting the growth of multicultural societies. By bringing together artists, cultural practitioners, and organizations, the program seeks to amplify regional ties and create opportunities for innovative cross-border partnerships.
Eligible projects focus on cultural and artistic exchanges that promote collaboration and human resource development. Activities may include network-building, joint initiatives, and dissemination efforts in fields such as visual arts, performing arts, music, literature, film, lifestyle culture, and sports. The program covers projects linking Japan with the 10 ASEAN member states as well as Timor-Leste, with an emphasis on cultivating long-term relationships through cultural exchange.
Applicants must be Japan-based legal entities actively involved in cultural and artistic fields or organizing committees led by such entities. The Japan Foundation provides partial funding to cover essential expenses, including honoraria, international and domestic travel, accommodation, venue rentals, production and equipment costs, publicity, material preparation, and shipping. By supporting these costs, the program helps ensure that resources can be directed toward meaningful collaboration and impactful outcomes.
Through the WA Project 2.0 and this grant program, the Japan Foundation reinforces its commitment to empowering the next generation, fostering cultural dialogue, and strengthening the shared future of Japan, ASEAN, and the wider Asian region.
