Deadline: 01-Nov-2025
The Gwaii Trust Society has opened its Arts Mentorship Grant, aiming to grow artistic capacity and cultural vibrancy across Haida Gwaii.
Living artists who have resided on Haida Gwaii for at least 24 consecutive months are eligible to apply, as are non-profit arts groups or organisations with an arts mandate and their own bank account.
With a total budget of $200,000, the grant provides support for mentorship relationships—either for an apprentice working with a mentor, or for the mentor or apprentice themselves—along with resources such as training, tools, equipment, exhibition or publication costs, and workspace rentals. A key goal is to foster community-based artistic growth and preserve the island’s cultural heritage through diverse creative disciplines including music, textiles, visual arts, digital arts, crafts, fashion, ceremonial arts, and performance.
Applications are accepted twice yearly, with windows running from September to early November and from February to early April. Applicants must submit a project summary, details of the individuals involved, examples of prior work, confirmation of mentorship, and supporting documents. Decisions are usually made about two months after the deadline.
The grant’s design encourages new applicants and projects with strong cultural and community impact. Preference is given to projects that benefit communities throughout Haida Gwaii. This opportunity not only helps artists develop their practice but also strengthens local creative ecosystems by investing in mentorship, skill sharing, and cultural expression.
