The Arts Council is pleased to launch a call for nominations for the Visual Arts Bursary Award to support professional artists at any stage of their career to develop their art practice. It provides artists with the time and resources to think, research, reflect and critically engage with their art.
Objectives
The objective of the Visual Arts Bursary Award is to support individual professional artists and curators to develop their practice. There are two strands to the award:
- Strand 1: Artists – The objective of the Visual Arts Bursary Award Strand 1: Artists is to support individual professional artists at any stage of their career to develop their artistic practice.
- Strand 2: Curators – The Visual Arts Bursary Award Strand 2: Curators seeks to provide curators with the time and resources to think, research, reflect and engage with their practice. The award emphasises the value and benefit to a curator’s development derived from an extended process of engagement with their curatorial practice.
Award Information
Funding will be offered according to bands. You should apply for one of the following amounts:
- €20,000
- €15,000
- €10,000
Eligibility Criteria
The award is open to practising visual artists or curators working in all genres and at all stages of their professional careers. To be eligible to apply, applicants must:
- Be resident in the Republic of Ireland. There are certain exceptions where the Arts Council may deem eligible applications made by those based outside the Republic of Ireland. However, before admitting as eligible any such application, the applicant would need to explicitly outline within the application how the outcomes of any such proposal would benefit the arts in the Republic of Ireland, and the Arts Council must be satisfied with same.
- Be professional practising artists or curators – although you might not earn income continuously or exclusively from your artistic practice, you must identify yourself, and be recognised by your peers, as a professional practising artist or curator.
The Arts Council particularly welcomes new applicants who represent the diversity of Irish society. They encourage applications from all areas of the community regardless of your gender, sexual orientation, civil or family status, religion, age, disability, race or membership of the Traveller Community, or socio-economic background.
