Deadline: 15 January 2020
The Sidney Hillman Foundation is seeking nominations for its “2020 Canadian Hillman Prize” to honor excellence in journalism in service of the common good.
Since 1950, the Sidney Hillman Foundation has honoured U.S journalists who pursue investigative reporting and deep storytelling in service of the common good. In 2011, the Sidney Hillman Foundation inaugurated the Canadian Hillman Prize. They are pleased to offer this prize to a Canadian journalist whose work makes a difference to the lives of Canadians.
The Hillman Prize seeks out investigative reporting that draws attention to social or economic injustice and hopefully leads to corrective measures. They strive to recognize discernment of a significant news story, resourcefulness and courage in reporting, skill in relating the story and the impact of the coverage.
The 2020 Hillman Prize will be given to a reported story or series published or broadcast in 2019. Eligible entries include reporting in newspapers, magazines and online, as well as television and radio, tablets and multimedia. Entries must have been published in Canada and been widely accessible to a Canadian audience. Self-published work is not eligible.
The winner(s) of the 2020 Canadian Hillman Prize will be announced in March and be awarded travel to receive a $5,000 prize and certificate at a reception in Toronto. The recipients will also be invited to travel to New York City on May 4, 2020 to participate in the U.S. awards ceremony.
