The Arts Council is excited to invite applications for its Literature Project Award to support specific artistic projects in literature.
It focuses on enabling individual artists and organisations to bring their ideas to fruition and create excellent artistic work.
Objective
- The Arts Council introduced the Literature Project Award in recognition of the changing landscape for literary work in Ireland. The award supports Irish-language literature and English-language literature or a combination of both.
Priorities
- The Literature Project Award prioritises:
- Projects that connect literature with readers and audiences; and/or
- Projects that allow writers and illustrators to research, develop and create work in new and innovative ways.
Funding Information
- You may apply for up to 30,000.
Eligible Activities
- The Literature Project Award supports a range of activities, including but not limited to:
- Traditional or digital publications
- Digital or innovative presentations
- Live literary, spoken-word or storytelling events
- Readings and talks
- Recordings or podcasts
- Reader-development projects
Ineligible Activities
- You cannot apply for:
- Screenwriting
- Journalism
- Religious writing
- Professional, instructional or academic writing
Eligibility Criteria
- The award is open to professional artists, groups of artists and organisations working in literature who are resident or based in Republic of Ireland.
- Potential applicants could be individual writers and/or illustrators, a group of writers and/or illustrators, publishers, journals, festivals, arts centres, libraries or bookshops.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Applicants who are not eligible to apply include the following:
- Organisations currently in receipt of funding under the following Arts Council programmes: Strategic Funding, Arts Centre Funding, Partnership Funding though the involvement of such organisations as partners is welcome
- Organisations or individuals in receipt of 2026 Arts Grant Funding
- Council of National Cultural Institutions (CNCI) (or Council members) directly funded by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport
- Individuals or organisations who do not have a demonstrable track record as professional artists or organisations
- Individuals currently in undergraduate education (including those undertaking foundation courses) or who will be during the period for which this award is offered.
