The Mercantil Journalism Award seeks to recognize reports that explore how the mature population can prepare for a long and full life, addressing everything from financial planning strategies and financial education to the impact of emotional and psychological stability on the wellbeing of this generation.
The reports can bring inspiring stories, challenges faced by the 50+ population, public policies, private initiatives and concrete examples of how different sectors of society can contribute to ensuring a healthier and more financially stable longevity.
Objectives
- Encourage the production of reports on the financial ecosystem aimed at the 50+ audience, promoting content that helps understand the needs of this segment.
- Value professional journalism, recognizing its role in disseminating impartial, plural information committed to the truth.
- Reinforce Banco Mercantil’s values and its commitment to encouraging debate and discussions on the demands and challenges of the 50+ public.
- Highlight the importance and potential of people over 50 years old, Banco Mercantil’s strategic target audience.
- Promote a more positive and respectful view of the elderly, combating ageism and encouraging their economic protagonism.
Theme
- The theme will be “Longevity and balance: building a sustainable financial, mental and emotional future”.
Categories
- Printed Media: reports published in newspapers or magazines.
- Online Media: reports published on portals, websites or blogs with a journalistic profile.
- Podcast, radio and video: interviews and reports in audio or video, broadcast on radio stations, podcasts or video channels on online platforms with at least 10 (ten) journalistic episodes released up until the registration date.
Funding Information
- R$80,000.00 (eighty thousand reais) will be awarded in prizes, distributed as follows:
- Journalism in Capital Cities and Metropolitan Regions
- Print Media and Online Media:
- 1st place: R$10,000.00 for each subcategory
- 2nd place: R$6,000.00 for each subcategory
- 3rd Place: R$4,000.00 for each subcategory
- Interior: other locations.

Eligibility Criteria
- The competition is open to journalists from all over Brazil, as contractors or service providers for media outlets based in the country.
- Works published between January 1, 2025 and September 30, 2025 will be considered.
- Only reports signed by one or more journalists and published or disseminated in news outlets based in Brazil may compete, including newspapers, magazines, portals and news agencies, podcasts, radio stations and news channels on video platforms such as YouTube and similar. Institutional, business or corporate communication materials or publications on social media platforms (Instagram, X, Threads, Facebook, TikTok, etc.) will not be accepted.
- Professionals with a functional or professional link with Banco Mercantil, nor their spouses, partners or relatives up to the second degree may not participate.
Evaluation Criteria
- Relevance of the news: the agenda must be of public interest and comply with criteria such as relevance, impact on citizens’ lives and originality.
- Technical quality: the text must comply with the criteria of clarity, precision, conciseness, coherence and cohesion. It must also comply with the standards of the standard educated language.
- Quality of content: the quality of the research, accuracy of the data presented and credibility of the sources will be evaluated.
- Originality and creativity: works that seek original, innovative and more creative ways of approaching the proposed theme will be valued.
Application Requirements
- Printed Media: material published in a printed newspaper or magazine must be sent in PDF format, containing the author’s name, date, vehicle and place of publication. publication.
- Online Media: a PDF of the report must be attached and/or an active access link must be provided. If the content is protected by a paywall, a login and password must be provided. The material must include the name of the author, the publication outlet, the date and place of publication of the work.
- Podcast, radio and video: works must be submitted in .jpg format. WAV, MP3, MP4 or via access link. It is important to include the author’s name, date, vehicle and place of publication of the work.
