Nominations are now open for the Tweed Sustainability Awards to celebrate individual, business and community champions in the community who are going above and beyond for sustainability in the Tweed.
Goals
- Their goal is to:
- recognise champions who are going above and beyond for sustainability
- support the growing community of people, projects and businesses focused on protecting the Tweed’s unique and internationally significant environment
- inspire others in sustainable practices.
Award Categories
- Regenerative Agriculture: Recognising outstanding contributions to the restoration of soils, waterways and biodiversity in agriculture.
- Wildlife and Habitat: Recognising outstanding contributions to the protection and conservation or active management of wildlife and native habitat.
- Tourism and Hospitality: Recognising outstanding contributions by tourism and hospitality operators to the environment and community.
- Urban Rewilding: Recognising individuals and families who have increased biodiversity in their own backyard or urban environments.
- Young people (25 and under): Recognising the achievements of young people in being sustainable, advocating and caring for the environment.
- Adults: Recognising the achievements of individuals in being sustainable, advocating and caring for the environment.
- Schools or education sector: Recognising schools, childcare, TAFE or other education institutions in creating a more sustainable environment.
- Not-for-profit/community groups: Recognising community groups and not-for-profit organisations who work in the community for improved sustainability and environmental outcomes.
- Businesses: Recognising businesses who are implementing sustainable initiatives into their operations to reduce their impact on the environment and promote sustainability.
- People’s Choice Awards: All nominees are eligible to win a People’s Choice Award, with the community voting to support their favourite sustainability champion.

- Each prize is valued at up to $450. Up to 9 prizes will be awarded, subject to entries being received in each available category.
- All nominees:
- will be featured in People’s Choice voting hosted on Council’s website
- promoted in media releases, social media posts, Tweed Link and Council’s e-newsletters
- will be eligible for random draw prize
Nomination Criteria
- Individuals, community groups, not-for-profits, schools and businesses
- The nominee must reside, be involved in projects, provide services and/or operate a business in the Tweed Shire local government area
- Previous nominees and Sustainability Award winners are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility Criteria
- The awards are open to all completed nominations for the Tweed Sustainability Awards.
- Video entries are also eligible if they address all of the relevant information from the online nomination form.
