The Southeast Asia Open Innovation Challenge (SEA OIC) 2021 brings together some of the region’s largest corporates to collaborate with innovative startups and SMEs.
The second edition of the SEA OIC will feature leading corporates across Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. These corporates are looking to partner with innovative companies that can address wide-ranging challenge statements with their solutions
Challenge Statements
- How might a palm oil ecosystem platform provide visibility of programmes that benefit smallholder farmers, so that they can be well-supported by downstream stakeholders and encourage collaborations between them?
- How mightaccurately identify emotions of self-service customers, so as to better respond to and engage with each customer?
- How might monitor and track assets accurately, seamlessly, and in real time?
- How might continually track important health indicators, such as blood pressure, blood sugar level, lipids, and BMI, for customers, so that they can better manage their health and access insurance at a right time and a right price?
- How might ingest data in real time from a variety of data sources, so that Muang Thai can better predict their needs and make product recommendations?
- How might a community app foster a Nongsa Digital Park (NDP) community, so as to enable workers at NDP to conveniently access facilities and services, and easily connect to their peers?
- How might diagnose, monitor and maintain battery health and performance, and repurpose Electric Vehicle batteries into Stationary Energy Storage System solutions?
- How might mechanise construction through new materials or technologies which require less labour and are more suited for automation?
- How might an online platform enable Sunway XFarms’ agri-preneurs to access international markets and manage a cross-border supply chain?
- How might predict the most popular travel and hospitality products amongst affluent Vietnamese travellers in a more timely, effective and efficient manner?
- How might improve the chatbot to better interact with and understand the customer, and offer a better experience?
Benefits
Awarded solvers stand to win up to SGD $20,000 Open Innovation Challenge (OIC) Grant for each Challenge Statement. Grant quantum will be subject to achievement of milestones as part of the pilot. Eligible innovators include Singapore startups and SMEs. Foreign startups and SMEs that are currently not registered in Singapore will be required to do so as part of the grant conditions. You will also be required to conduct project developmental activities in Singapore or have demonstrated substantial innovation and business activity in Singapore.
Eligibility Criteria
- The Challenge is open to all enterprises and problem solvers, including, research institutes and Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs). All applicants/entrants/participants (“Participants”) must be above the age of 18 years old as at the date of entry and must submit their project proposals (“Project Proposals”) detailing their solution to a particular challenge statement (“Challenge Statement”) launched under the Challenge.
- Employees, representatives and family members of Apical Group, Bank Central Asia, Muang Thai, Nongsa Digital Park, Siam Cement Group, Sime Darby Property, Sunway Group and Thien Minh Group (“Challenge Statement Owners”), as well as the Organiser, should declare such relationship to the Organiser and Challenge Statement Owner(s) that they are submitting their Project Proposals to.
- Project Proposals with solutions that have received funding from other programmes run by government agencies or statutory boards should declare the funding received and project details to the Organiser.
- Enterprise(s) collaborating with Public Researchers; Public researcher(s) can participate by either:
- Registering a new spin-off to license the technology, led by a committed and capable team; or
- Submitting a joint proposal with an enterprise (the enterprise has to co-develop the solution, lead the proposal submission and eventually commercialise the proposed solution).
