Deadline: 29-Sep-2025
The Transit Construction Mitigation Fund offers financial support to Business Improvement Areas and business associations affected by transit construction to implement community-driven mitigating initiatives.
The focus areas of the program are to support local businesses impacted by major construction works, encourage the development and testing of innovative and effective construction mitigation strategies and expand their use across the City of Toronto, and to pilot and showcase innovative, scalable construction mitigation solutions to challenges faced by BIAs and local business communities.
This fund provides grants in increments of $25,000, $50,000, or $100,000 for projects that meet eligibility requirements, targeting initiatives such as business engagement, marketing and branding, creative event activations, and placemaking. The program specifically supports businesses impacted by sustained transit projects, including major transit expansions like the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and the Scarborough Subway Extension.
Eligible organizations include Toronto BIAs and not-for-profit entities such as business associations and registered charities demonstrating strong local business involvement. For-profit businesses are not eligible. Applicants must have a good standing with the City of Toronto and a history of compliance with grant funding requirements.
Projects that qualify for funding must not already be eligible under other City of Toronto grants, nor cover services completed prior to grant approval or consulting costs for any post-contract scope changes. Applicants are encouraged to engage with the program manager through consultations or proposal feedback before applying online by the deadline.
The Transit Construction Mitigation Fund stands as a vital resource, enabling community collaborations to ease the disruptive impacts of transit infrastructure development on local economies and to foster innovative solutions that benefit Toronto’s business landscape.
