The Rand Water Foundation has announced the call for proposals for the Water Sanitation Hygiene (WASH) Service Delivery Partnerships Program.
The Foundation is on a journey to becoming a National Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Centre of Excellence ensuring Communities’ access to clean and safe drinking water; Adequate and dignified sanitation facilities for vulnerable communities; Prevention of water sources contamination; and Promoting hands-washing for behavioral change on personal hygiene through; Business partnerships development for WASH, a socio-economic developmental model integrating water, sanitation and hygiene interventions through entrepreneurship and the NGOs’ sector as service delivery partners. Key strategic impact analysis resonates in Drinking Water; Sanitation and Hygiene; Water Quality; Water use efficiency; Water resources management; and Ecosystems.
Qualifying Small Micro and Medium Enterprises (SMMEs) are invited to submit service delivery partnership proposals for the implementation of the Rand Water Foundation primary activities. as follows:
- Sustainable Water Supply Investments
- Rural Communities Water Supply
- The project is aimed at providing solution to water shortages faced by communities in rural areas and farms through augmenting of bulk water supply and promoting access to safe drinking water. Investments will be executed within Victor Khanye Local Municipality and Gavan Mbeki Local Municipality, in Mpumalanga; Ekurhuleni Metropolitan municipality, Emfuleni Local Municipality and Rand West City Local Municipality in Gauteng; as well as Metsimaholo local Municipality in the Free State Province. Below are the details of the project:
- Scope of Work (Drilling of boreholes)
- All sites/sections require the following specifications:
- Conducting of Geo Hydrological survey, assessment, and report
- Conduct Borehole siting.
- Drilling of new boreholes
- Drilling production borehole @ 120m depth maximum
- Aquifer testing
- Provision borehole/s pump testing
- All sites/sections require the following specifications:
- Scope of works (Installation of communal taps)
- Extending of communal taps from the boreholes by 200 m away from the tanks
- Installation of concrete slab by 1.5 x 1m
- From the ground 30 cm in the ground 15cm and top slab 15 cm
- The communal taps must in the blue pipe color.
- Small drainage system with 1m deep next to the communal taps to prevent mud around the communal taps, inside the drainage system must have a stone.
- Safety Compliance Requirements
- Submit safety file before commencement of work (specific to the project)
- Full time safety officer or trained SHE rep.
- Medical fitness certificates from Occupational Health Specialist.
- Full time First Aider (Trained)

- Community education on water use efficiency and awareness campaigns on wastewater discharges and drainage challenges
- Inappropriate disposal of waste in sewerage systems and consequent blockages and other maintenance problems remain a major challenge for the water sector. Inadequate waste causes sewer network maintenance problems, sewer odours, blockages, further increasing the impact of combined sewer overflows. Educational and awareness raising campaigns are aimed at sharing educational information with local communities about wastewater discharges and drainage issues and should focus on the following activities:
- Sustainable and healthy household habits, including the proper disposal of waste (unflushable, FOG, antibiotics, etc.), to encourage the public to reduce waste and pollution entering sanitation and water systems.
- Raising public awareness on proper disposal of domestic waste entering wastewater systems.
- Educational campaigns that are aimed at protecting the pipes, pumps, plants, and personnel, by reducing the materials that are inappropriately flushed or drained into the sewer system.
- Stopping pollution at source in a more effective way to avoid improper sewage debris entering the water environment.
- NB. The proposal must include a budget for a period of six (06) months

- Maintenance of wastewater treatment plants for a period of six (06) months
- NGOs are invited to submit a service delivery partnerships proposal for the maintenance of four (04) Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTP):

- Grass cutting and general maintenance of the following WWTPs:
- Randfontein WWTP
- Sebokeng WWTP
- Bophelong/Rietspruit WWTP
- Leeuwkuil WWTP
