Fast Forward is inviting applications for its accelerator program designed specifically for tech nonprofit founders aiming to create large-scale social impact. The program provides access to capital, mentorship, and a strong support network to help participants grow their organizations during and after the accelerator.
The Fast Forward Accelerator is a long-established initiative that supports early-stage tech nonprofits. Participants receive a $25,000 philanthropic grant, as well as tailored mentorship and a peer community. The program addresses the unique challenges at the intersection of the tech and nonprofit sectors.
One of the key features of the program is its dual focus on capital and content. Participants receive guidance on fundraising within the nonprofit sector and gain access to seed capital to launch or grow their work. The curriculum includes nonprofit essentials like board development and impact measurement, alongside tech-specific training in product development, go-to-market strategies, and scaling.
The Accelerator also provides a strong cohort experience. Founders join a community of peers who face similar challenges and can share knowledge and support. This sense of belonging extends beyond the program, as participants join Fast Forward’s broader network.
The program follows a hybrid model. It begins with an in-person kickoff in San Francisco in February, followed by virtual and in-person Demo Days in May or June. Most sessions are conducted online, and travel support is available for participants based outside the Bay Area.
Applicants from outside San Francisco — and even outside the United States — are encouraged to apply. Fast Forward values geographic diversity and helps cover travel and accommodation costs for required in-person events. Organizations do not need to be U.S.-based or have a 501(c)(3) status, as long as they are legally registered nonprofits in their own countries.
Startups must have a minimum viable product (MVP) to apply. While Fast Forward cannot accept those still in the idea phase, they offer resources like playbooks and a newsletter called Funding Forward to help early-stage entrepreneurs prepare for future opportunities.
Teams that outsource software development are still eligible, though preference is given to those with in-house tech leadership or plans to hire a CTO. Applicants must demonstrate that their tech product is central to their impact.
Current leaders of organizations, even if not founders, are eligible to apply. The selection process considers a range of factors including leadership strength, technical capability, potential for impact and scalability, and lived experience with the problem being addressed.
The only firm requirement is that applicants be early-stage tech nonprofits with an MVP. Fast Forward looks for organizations where their support can truly accelerate growth and deepen impact.
