Nominations are now open for the MTN Business App of the Year Award. The MTN App of the Year Awards is a champion of app development in South Africa; celebrating local talent and out-of-the-box thinkers that drive disruption and change.
App of the Year has entrenched itself as the premier app development competition in the country, and we’ve come a long way since our inaugural event in 2012, thanks to the amazing calibre of entrants – some of whom have become household names – and our partners, whose support makes the magic happen year on year.
They offer an array of great prizes, massive media exposure and publicity to all of our entrants, finalists and winners.
The aim of the MTN Business App Academy is to mentor and upskill aspiring talent for a career in app development. This will be done through a six-week online coding programme which feeds into a new category for the app awards, specifically for the developers who went through the academy. At its core, the MTN Business App Academy is really about upskilling South Africans, particularly the youth, for a future in ICT, software and mobile app development. The plan is for the academy to develop into a fully-fledged development hub that MTN Business will run with regional partners, academic institutions and enterprise clients for many years to come.
Award Information
The R100 000 for ‘Best Youth App’ award will be split as; R50,000 for the 1st place. 2nd place winner will receive R30,000 and R20,000 will go to the entrant in 3rd place.
Eligibility Criteria
The MTN App Academy is open to everyone that is looking to develop an app. However, participants must meet the following minimum criteria
- Matric + with basic coding skills
- Relevant IT qualification or minimum 1-year experience with software development professionally or as a hobby
- An understanding and proficiency of mobile app development
- UI/UX Design background.
