Deadline: 29-Aug-2025
ventureLAB’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Fund provides support for nonprofits and entrepreneurs working to serve underrepresented communities and develop solutions in Agri-tech and Cleantech. This fund is designed to back early-stage startups, accelerators, incubators, and community partners, with a strong emphasis on innovation, diversity, and inclusion.
The fund is divided into two streams. Stream 1 focuses on nonprofits and community partners that serve underrepresented groups in York Region and beyond. It aims to support initiatives that foster entrepreneurship and innovation among communities that have historically faced systemic barriers. Two selected nonprofit organizations will receive $10,000 each to support their programs.
Stream 2 targets small businesses and entrepreneurs developing Agri-tech and Cleantech innovations. The goal is to stimulate social and environmental sustainability by expanding access to capital for innovative ventures. Seven qualified ventures will each receive $10,000 to advance their technologies and market growth.
In 2025, York Region has committed $100,000 to fund both streams. Projects can be up to 10 months long and require recipients to match the awarded amount. Funds will be disbursed within 30 business days of signing the agreement, and recipients must submit a final report demonstrating project outcomes.
To qualify for Stream 1, nonprofit organizations must show a successful track record of delivering services to underrepresented communities in York Region. For Stream 2, businesses must be incorporated in Canada, based in York Region, and actively engaging or planning to engage with a local innovation partner for at least six months. Eligible ventures must have 1–99 employees, at least one business and one technical co-founder, a minimum viable product, and initial customer traction. Matching funds are also required.
