Development Alternatives supported by Ford Foundation has launched an award entitled “Community Media – Technology Innovation Grant in India” to identify and incubate innovative technologies that can enhance the outreach and efficiency of grassroots communication by community based organizations. A total of 5 technologies will be selected for incubation. Each identified technology will be piloted with 3-5 community based organizations in the country to test their effectiveness.
The competition will encourage technology innovators and provide them opportunity to test their innovations on ground in association with various community based organizations in the country. These may include community radio stations, community video, community newspapers etc.
Award Information
Five technology development awards will be given out ranging from INR 3 Lakhs to INR 15 Lakhs per technology to the selected technology partners. The Jury will take a call on the amount of fund to be made available to each technology expert for piloting.
Eligibility Criteria
- Any organization/educational institute/technology research group/social organization can apply for this award.
- Evaluation of each entry will be done on three main criteria i.e., impact, innovation and feasibility.
- This is only for Indian organizations.
Selection Criteria
- Technology should be innovative or the application should have rights of it
- Increases community engagement and outreach of community based organizations
- Offers low cost alternative to existing technological equipment
- No degree required to adopt this technology
- No other government permission required for adoption
