The Thomas Jefferson Scholarship Program is seeking applications to offer small grants to alumni through the Alumni Venture Fund.
The Alumni Venture Fund is funded through the Tunisia Undergraduate Scholarship Program (Tunisia UGRAD) and Tunisia Community College Scholarship Program (TCCSP), programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. government and administered by IREX.
The Alumni Venture Fund provides seed funding through small grants to alumni to launch innovative or entrepreneurial activities benefiting their local community. Eligible activities include:
- Seed money for a vetted business or social entrepreneurship concept;
- Funding to launch a sustainable project addressing a local community need; or
- Resources for a market-responsive training or innovative professional development project.
Funding Information
The amount of funding available for grants is a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $1,000 for individual projects and a maximum of $2,000 for group projects of multiple alumni.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates will be considered without respect to race, color, religion, national origin, or gender. Persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. Grants through the Alumni Venture fund are awarded in a merit-based competition open to alumni of the Thomas Jefferson Scholarship Program in good standing who submit a complete application. Funding will be provided only once per project.
- More than one alumnus/a may work together to implement a project. However, the application must be submitted by only one individual. Project funding and responsibility will be awarded to that alumnus/a only.
- Please address Question 10 on the application to provide information on collaborators.
Individuals in the following circumstances are NOT eligible for Alumni Venture funds:
- Individuals currently residing or working outside of Tunisia;
- Local employees of the U.S. missions abroad who work for the U.S. Department of State, both during the period of their employment and for one year following the termination of employment;
- Current IREX employees, consultants, or their immediate family members (spouses, parents, children, and siblings);
- Previous grant awardees that did not successfully fulfill all requirements of previously awarded alumni grants.
Only one application per deadline for any individual alumnus/a will be considered.
Selection Criteria
Eligible applications will be reviewed competitively against the following Selection Criteria:
- Potential impact of the proposed project on and benefit to the applicant’s community;
- Creativity and originality of the proposed project;
- Sustainability of the proposed project beyond the Alumni Venture funding;
- Strength and workability of the project design;
- Budget reasonableness; and
- Overall quality and appropriateness of the project idea
