The International Committee of The Red Cross (ICCRC) is seeking applications for its “International Humanitarian Coverage Award” to recognize the work of Brazilian journalists and media outlets covering humanitarian issues.
Humanitarian issues in armed conflict should be addressed, but recorded reports may refer to the application of the norms of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL), i.e. the norms applicable in war. The content may also refer to the human impact of armed conflicts, in particular humanitarian assistance (food deliveries, medicines, health care, potable water supply), migration, refuge, disappearances in armed conflict, Medical missions and sexual violence in situations of armed conflict.
Award Information
- 1st place = Trip for up to two professionals to a context of armed conflict where the ICRC operates, including airfare, lodging and daily for a week in a place to be defined by the institution. The awardees will be able to meet and cover the local humanitarian issues and the work done by the organization, facilitating interviews and follow-up of ICRC staff.
- 2nd place = cash prize of R $ 5,000 for the team.
- 3rd place = cash prize of R $ 4,000 for the team.
Eligibility Criteria
- Professional journalists who work in Brazilian media;
- Journalistic productions highlighting international humanitarian issues, with a focus on victims;
- Productions for printed media, television, radio or multimedia;
- The submitted material must have been submitted between January 1, 2016 and July 31, 2017.
- ICRC staff and their immediate family members may not compete for the award.
