Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development (APWLD) is inviting grassroots women’s rights organisations and movements from Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan) to take part in this exciting Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) programme that aims to develop capacity, tools and resources that support rural, indigenous, migrant and urban poor women (RIMUP).
In 2019 Central Asia FPAR (CA FPAR) will focus on the issue of Central Asian women’s access and control over land and resources, decent work and living wage, and women’s voice (women’s democratic participation and bodily autonomy). This FPAR in Central Asia is part of APWLD’s Breaking out of Marginalisation (BOOM) programme.
Objective
To advance rural, indigenous, migrant and urban poor (RIMUP) women’s human rights by increasing the capacity of RIMUP women in Central Asia to author evidence-based community research and be vocal and effective policy advocates for human rights and development justice.
Specific objectives
- Develop the capacity of RIMUP women and their 8– 10 organisations to research and document evidence for use in engaging decision-making processes on women’s rights at local, national, regional and international levels;
- Foster knowledge and resources on violation of women migrants’ human rights at the local, national, regional and international levels;
- Establish strategic advocacy plans and opportunities to share evidence-based results and support women’s own positions and solutions for policy change at national, regional and international levels; and
- Strengthen institutional development of partner organisation through leadership development and movement building.
Funding Information
APWLD will provide eight to ten organisations with a small grant to employ a young woman researcher and carry out the research including salary and on-costs with the approximate amount of USD 12,000. Research partners will need to appoint a mentor to assist this young women researcher throughout this research programme.
Participants
- Eight to ten RIMUP women’s organisations of Central Asia.
- Two representative from each organization will form a team to conduct FPAR on evidence-based advocacy using the skill they learn from the regional trainings.
- The team should consist of one young woman researcher and one mentor – one of them must be from the RIMUP community involved in the research – from the same organisation or APWLD member organisation. One of team members should have spoken and written abilities in Russian and English languages.
- Organisation participants should have experience in organisational work and advocacy for women’s rights and commitment to women’s movement.
Selection Criteria of the Research Partners
- APWLD will select rural, indigenous, urban poor women organisations who will lead the FPAR on human rights for women in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan countries. They are seeking non-governmental, non-profit, grassroots based organisations that are:
- Committed towards the enjoyment and realisation of the human rights of women at community level in Central Asia, particularly of the most marginalised ( rural, indigenous, migrants,poor urban or women in other minority groups);
- Committed to conducting the 1.5 years Feminist Participatory Action Research process;
- Committed to feminist participatory methodologies that increase democratic participation and leadership of marginalised women in the research;
- Can provide the appointed researcher with internet and computer access for regular online communication with APWLD secretariat and online training.
- APWLD will consider the following when selecting the ten organisations for this project:
- Country representation in Central Asia;
- Recommendations/ references by APWLD members;
- Diverse human rights and development concerns of rural, indigenous, migrant and other marginalised women in Central Asia.
