AGORA Docs in Progress seeks documentary projects that showcase artistic ambition and high visual quality, are produced or co-produced by eligible countries, or contain elements linking the story to these regions, and encourages applications from projects outside the eligible countries if they consider the platform suitable for their launch.
Accommodation for five nights and partial travel reimbursement is provided for attending project teams. AGORA Docs in Progress also presents several awards, including the Jury awards “Two Thirty-Five (2|35) Award” for post-production, image, and sound, and the “Neaniko Plano Subtitling Award,” as well as the independent Onassis Film Award of €5000 for Greek projects participating in the AGORA.
The selection process identifies 8–10 documentary feature films from Southeastern Europe, the Eastern Mediterranean, and North Africa, offering filmmakers a platform to present their work to key players in the audiovisual sector. Selection is primarily based on the quality of the visual material provided, along with the artistic elements, themes of the film, and the track record of the director and production company.
The process aims to maintain a balance across countries, regions, genders, and themes. Only documentary feature projects (over 60 minutes) or documentary series are eligible, with each production company allowed to submit up to two projects. Applicants must indicate any previous participation in workshops, markets, or pending applications.
Selected projects require directors and producers to attend a mandatory online workshop and participate in the full AGORA Docs in Progress program. The workshop provides pitching training, feedback on film excerpts, and guidance on print materials such as synopsis and director’s notes.
Participants must create a 12-minute clip from their film with English subtitles for presentation to industry professionals. Finished projects must display the AGORA Docs in Progress logo and credit line in their film credits.
Filmmakers interested in participating must submit their applications by December 5, 2025, through the online AGORA Docs in Progress Application Form in English, along with a minimum of selected 25-minute excerpts or scenes of the film via a secure web link.
Once the form is submitted, no changes can be made. Notification of selection will be announced in mid-January 2026, with an online preparatory workshop scheduled for late January. The main AGORA Docs in Progress event will take place in Thessaloniki from March 8–12, 2026, followed by online meetings on March 13.
