The Thomson Reuters Foundation is offering a media training course for Ukrainian LGBT + fighters.
This new innovative training is aimed at LGBT + activists who will be taught interesting ways to engage the media. This includes: brief delivery of applicants message, understanding of a diverse audience, leveraging traffic, understanding integrated messages among other contextual topics.
The intensive four-day workshop, which will be held in Kyiv, Ukraine, from Tuesday 03 December to Friday 06 December 2019, will help develop the skills of the LGBTI community leaders to fully cooperate with the media.
At the seminar, participants will be shown how to structure a media strategy that will help encourage people to support their campaign and organization. Participants will learn how to develop a media strategy using a variety of tools, such as print, broadcast and social media.
At the same time, 15 media practitioners will receive training on LGBT + rights reporting. On the last day of training, LGBT + activists and journalists will come together for a joint meeting.
Funding
- Selected applicants (outside the capital) will receive a full scholarship to cover tuition, travel, accommodation and meals. Local participants are expected to cover their own travel expenses but will be given free tuition.
- Selected participants will receive moderate funding to conduct research on LGBT +.
Eligibility Criteria
- This will be an incredible opportunity for LGBT + activists from Ukraine working within the movement. Those applying for this training should have professional experience of working with the media and be motivated to work closely with the media to change the stereotype of LGBT + people that is rooted in the mass consciousness.
- The program looks for participants who:
- strongly motivated to work with LGBT + media;
- open to discussion that helps change the way LGBT + issues are reported in their countries;
- believe that this training will improve their activity;
- show great interest in personal development.
