Deadline: 4 November 2016
The UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) is currently seeking Service Provider for the Water Security for Growth Programme in Tanzania, aimed at improving water resource management within Tanzania and improving water security. It is a multi-component project, involving financial aid, technical assistance at national and basin levels, and the establishment of a project preparation facility.
Within this framework climate change has been selected as a priority cross cutting issue. Tanzania has significant water resources but experiences seasonal and regional variability across the country due to differences in topography, rainfall patterns and climate. This variability is exacerbated by insufficient storage infrastructure , inadequate levels of water efficiency as well as weak regulation and lack of adherence and enforcement of water allocation laws, rules and policy. Climate change is exacerbating these challenges.
Water security challenges in Tanzania mean that the sustainability of national economic growth and Tanzania’s development objectives could be undermined. Achieving water security and resilience to climate change is vital to ensure Tanzania can meet its economic and social development objectives. Water security has been defined as the availability of an acceptable quantity and quality of water for health, livelihoods, ecosystems and production, coupled with an acceptable level of water-related risks to people, environments and economies.

The Programme provides funding of up to £31.7 million for the duration of 5 years.
