Southern Africa Network for Biosciences (SANBio) is seeking applications for its FemBioBiz Acceleration Programme for ambitious female leaders in bioscience-based businesses who would like to grow their business through an acceleration programme, and gain regional exposure and access to international markets.
Prize Information
Prizes include cash grants and incubation support
- Botswana – Prizes valued at R450 000!
- Business Advisory services, capacity building and innovation support will be provided for a period of 6 months for pre-incubation, 18 months for incubation and 6 months for acceleration.
- Seychelles – Prizes valued at R76 840!
- Leadership and mentorship programmes in conjunction with partners such as Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority, Air Seychelles, Seychelles Investment Board and Seychelles Tourism Board.
- Mozambique – Prizes valued at R228 000!
- Incubation, marketing and financial support services for the top performers.
- Zimbabwe – Prizes valued at R300 000!
- Cash prizes and other in-kind contributions for the top performers.
- Zambia – Prizes valued at R300 000!
- Cash and incubation prizes for the top performers.
- Malawi – Prizes valued at R206 640!
- Incubation and mentorship for 3 months.
- Namibia – Prizes valued at R300 000!
- Cash and in-kind prizes including incubation and mentorship.
- South Africa – Prizes valued at R300 000!
- Up to R75 000 per winner in cash and in-kind prizes.
Eligibility Criteria
- The programme will target female entrepreneurs with a business involving biotechnologies and other technologies in health or nutrition under the following categories:
- Innovative businesses – Entrepreneurs whose business is based on an innovative biotechnology or other technologies that impact health and nutrition;
- Growth businesses – Bioentrepreneurs whose business is at minimum R 500 000 and are looking at growing their business twice as much within a year;
- Social enterprises – Private biobusinesses or bioenterprises with impact targeting the base or bottom of the pyramid (BoP);
- Female students in tertiary institutions – With feasible ideas based on innovative biotechnologies or other technologies that impact health and nutrition.
- Individuals from all the 13 SANBio member states in SADC are encouraged to apply: successful applicants will take part in the nearest country’s programme.
