U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia has announced the summer 2018 Study of the U.S. Institute for Student Leaders program on the topic of Women’s Leadership.
Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) for Women’s Leadership are intensive short-term academic programs whose purpose is to provide groups of undergraduate women leaders with a deeper understanding of the United States while simultaneously enhancing their leadership skills.
The five-week “institutes” consist of a balanced series of seminar discussions, readings, group presentations, and lectures. The coursework and classroom activities will be complemented by educational travel, site visits, leadership activities, and volunteer opportunities within the respective local communities. During the academic residency portion of the program, participants will also have the opportunity to engage in educational and cultural activities outside of the classroom. During the Women’s Leadership Conference, more than 80 SUSI participants will have opportunities to network with one another and to meet with inspiring U.S. women leaders.
Eligibility Criteria
- Mongolian female citizens currently living in Mongolia, between 18 and 25 years of age
- Proficient in English and a demonstrated interest in the topic of Women’s Leadership;
- Will have at least one semester to be completed remaining at their home university at after the conclusion of the SUSI on Women’s Leadership program
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and potential in their university and community activities; including a sustained high level of academic achievement, as indicated by grades, awards, and teacher recommendations; and a demonstrated commitment to community and extracurricular university activities;
- A serious interest in learning about the United States; having little or no prior study or travel experience in the United States or elsewhere outside of their home country;
- Exhibits the qualities of maturity, responsibility, independence, confidence, as well as an open-minded, tolerant, thoughtful, and inquisitive mindset;
- A willingness and ability to fully participate in an intensive academic program, community service activities, and educational travel; and the ability to adjust to and be comfortable with campus life, including the sharing of living accommodations and the cultural and social practices that may differ from those of their home country.
