The United Nations Development Program, within the framework of the regional project “Strengthening Sustainability of Local Communities and Regional Cooperation to Prevent Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism in Central Asia,” announces a competition of grant projects among non-governmental / non-profit organizations to support initiatives / action plans of vulnerable youth of target populations points of Aktobe and Karaganda regions.
The purpose of the grant competition: to support youth initiatives through non-governmental / non-profit non-governmental organizations to involve young people in making socially important decisions at the local level in order to eliminate pressure factors such as a feeling of inability to be heard, a feeling of inability to influence the decision-making process, a sense of powerlessness, lack of benefits in existing social infrastructure.
The grant competition will be implemented as follows:
- Widely informing the public in the media, social networks, on the sites of regional Akimats and UNDP in Kazakhstan, as well as holding consultative meetings with NGOs in the Aktobe and Karaganda regions in order to clarify the conditions of the competition in more detail, discuss possible project areas and assist in the formation of portfolio of tenders.
- Formed applications must be sent to UNDP in Kazakhstan.
- After the deadline for submitting applications, they will be evaluated by members of the Grant Committee. Based on the results of the Grant Committee meeting, approved tenders will be supported by the UNDP project.
- After receiving financial resources by grant recipients, the implementation of projects begins. UNDP regularly monitors the implementation of approved projects.
Thematic areas of the grant competition:
Applications submitted for the competition and applying for a grant should be aimed at supporting youth initiatives of target audiences of the Aktobe and Karaganda regions. Examples of possible areas of action are given below, however, are not limited to:
- innovative educational centers;
- sports grounds;
- libraries;
- coworking centers;
- playgrounds;
- new equipment;
- restoration of social infrastructure, etc.
Funding Information
- The maximum amount of one grant is 1,900,000 (one million nine hundred thousand) tenge.
- Payment will be made in tenge.
- Project implementation period: May – July 2020.
- Within the requested budget, administrative expenses should not exceed 10%.
Basic Requirements
In addition to compliance with the main thematic areas of the grant competition, all applications submitted must:
- be interlinked with national and local development programs and priorities;
- be aimed at involving local vulnerable youth in target communities;
- be sustainable in terms of project duration and strengthening the local community;
- lay the mechanism for ensuring the institutional and financial sustainability of the project after the end of its financing;
- Focus on social and gender equality;
- contain a component on capacity building, training and public awareness of project approaches and technologies;
- Be aimed at solving the most pressing social issues in the region (have a high degree of visibility);
- may involve partners for joint implementation and possible co-financing of the project;
- contain information on the definition of clear indicators for measuring achieved results.
Criteria
- Since the project is aimed at strengthening local communities of target settlements (Aktobe oblast – Shalkar, Kandyagash, Shubarkuduk, Karaganda oblast – Balkhash, Zhezkazgan, Satpayev), only non-governmental / non-profit public organizations registered in the Aktobe or Karaganda oblast can participate in the competition, drawn up in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- The declared design idea and design activities must comply with the statutory goals and statutory activities of the organization.
- Project work should not duplicate the activities of the organization funded by other donors, but can complement it.
- Each NGO can provide both a separate project for a specific locality, and a project that covers all targeted settlements in one of the regions.
- The term for the implementation of projects should not exceed 3 months.
- UNDP in Kazakhstan reserves the right to control the expenditure of earmarked funds and the implementation of the project.
- The application must be completed in accordance with the grant application form. The application form is attached.
- All work done and purchased goods must remain in the targeted settlements.
